Within the project „School of Artistic Skills“, the Centre for Youth Your Serbia delivered a three-day training on social inclusion for 30 young people. The participants of the training are also participating in the rest of the project, and they are 15 young people from the Home for children and young people with disabilities “Sremcica” and 15 young people from general population. The training was organized with the aim to create a common base of knowledge between participants and ensure obtaining basic information on social inclusion and best practices in this area. The training was held by professionals with years of experience in this field, but as well by the young peer educators who also presented the activities of youth offices in this field. Workshops within the training included the following: exercises for the participants to jointly define who are young people with fewer opportunities (in this case, young people with mental disabilities), how are they seen by the society and what pressures they face. Also, during the workshops participants discussed about understanding the nature of prejudice and stereotypes, as well as about discrimination and social distance on general and personal level. Raising awareness of participants from the general population about how it feels to be excluded or insufficiently involved in the society is one of the aspects of the project. After the training, these young people will participate in creative workshops in which they will prepare the materials and performance for the event “Look at me with your heart” to be held at the end of the project – 16 November on the International Day of Tolerance. The project “School of Artistic Skills” is financed by the European Youth Foundation of the Council of Europe.
